Maine Educational Assessment (M.E.A.)

The M.E.A.'s will be administered to all students in Grades 3-8 in the
month of March, 2006. This is a requirement of the No Child Left Behind law and went into effect this year.

Changes to the M.E.A.:

Grade 3 will be assessed in reading and mathematics.

Grade 4 will be assessed in reading, mathematics, and science and technology.

Grade 5 will be assessed in reading, mathematics, and a field test in writing.

Grades 6 & 7 will be assessed in reading and mathematics.

Grade 8 will be assessed in reading, mathematics, science & technology, and in a field test in writing.

There are usually three sections of reading, mathematics, and science & technology. All students must fill out a student questionaire. Results from the assessments above will be used to determine if our schools individually and/or our district as a whole meet "Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)", a federal requirement.

All students in Maine are assessed following the guidelines and protocols. These assessments must be administered between March 6 - 24, 2006. When we receive our results, usually after June, the individual student results will be sent home.

Look for informational meetings or written communication on the results as a district.

You can find out test scores from the Maine Educational Assessment (M.E.A.) website here. (www.state.me.us/education/mea/edmea.htm)
