For any position, such as teacher, educational tech, clerical, custodian, bus
driver, or kitchen help, potential substitutes must complete the Application
for Substitutes - all positions and
submit it to the Central
Office.
Every person who substitutes (no exceptions) must have either:
1. a permanent Criminal
History Record Check approval: or
2. a temporary C.H.R.C.
approval
on file at the Central Office.
Temporary approvals are good for eight weeks
and you must be fingerprinted before the approval expires.
Submit the “Application for Initial Approval” form with a $15.00 fee to:
Department of Education
Certification Office
23 State
House Station
Augusta, ME 04333-0023
to get the temporary approval. These forms
are at the Central Office. We will also require
a copy of the permanent approval (good for five years) when that is received.

You can sign up for fingerprinting on-line at the Maine Department of Education
Website at www.state.me.us/education.
Then choose Educators and Administrators, then
Fingerprint Schedule.
